CLS Little Bits Win Two ASHA Awards

Cash Lovell Stables' youth group Lovell's Little Bits received TWO awards at the recent ASHA Awards Banquet in Kentucky. One for Outstanding Performance in Fundraising and the other for Outstanding Performance in Education. Thank you, ASHA! And congratulations Little Bits!

Dear CLS Family and Friends,

DON'T come into the office!! You might get drafted. We're redecorating/rearranging/ repainting and yes, regretting that we ever started this crazy project. Only teasing. Thanks for being patient while we beautify.

Enjoy the pictures to the right of the annual American Saddlebred Horse Association of the Carolinas banquet in Concord last weekend. CLS raked in scores of awards, and our youngsters were breathtaking in their fancy duds!

Dear CLS Family and Friends,

I just tried to walk through the barn, and I couldn't. The aisle was plum full of dirty barn babies. All shapes. All sizes. All grabbing at me with grubby little paws, telling me about their day, and CC's muddy legs, and their new African dwarf frog.

I'm finally at my table now, typing to the rhythm of raindrops on the barn's tin roof. Bun Bun is attacking the door of her bunny penthouse demanding more M & Ms.

I love my life. Thank you for being part of this wonderfully nutty funny farm. What happens here constantly amazes me. If you don't believe it, wait till you see the CLS Electronic Scrapbook from 2011. Little Bits Mom Kim Stewart totally outdid herself. And judging from the scrapbook, so did the entire barn family. Please read and enjoy!

Oh, and let's do it again this year!

We were overwhelmed by the turn yesterday for the barn's Makeup Safety Meeting! We now have over 100 newly trained Barn Helpers! The safety of our riders is our first and foremost goal at CLS. Thank you to all who attended either the first meeting in November or the one from yesterday. If you were unable to attend either meeting, please email Parker at parker@cashlovellstables.com to set up a time for training and certification.

Barn Families - we need your help to get ready to send care packages to soldiers!

In the next two weeks, we'll be collecting items to use for our next Fun Friday (on Friday, October 14).

Who we're sending our care packages to: Our care packages will go to 35 U.S. Soldiers stationed in Kuwait who are part of the 1452 U.S. Army Platoon. These soldiers are operating under First Ltnt. Lee Smith, the father of little Brenna Smith, a Lovell's Little Bit. They all are from Winston-Salem, and very, very few have family back home who can send them care packages.

Where to drop off supplies: We will have a box at the barn Monday morning so that folks can drop off their donations all next week. People also can stop by the office and give money, so that we can buy supplies for the care packages.

What to bring: The items requested are:

Stationery
16 - 32 oz. powdered drink mixes such as Kool-Aid or Lipton
Beef Jerky
Sunflower seeds
Deodorant
Small shower soap
shaving lotion
sunscreen
books and magazines
movies
individually wrapped snack items
individually wrapped candy, except for chocolate that melts
granola and nutrigrain bars

Thank you so much for your help and if you have a dad, uncle or friend fighting in the war, please let us know. Thanks!

Fall Fun Show Date Announced

Lovell's Little Bits Fall Charity Fun Show will take place on Saturday, October 22 and will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The show is open to all CLS riders (at every level!) and will take place right at Cash Lovell Stables. Riders will receive a CLS/St. Jude t-shirt to wear for the show.

Entry Fee: $85 per rider, includes the shirt (a portion of this fee goes to St. Jude.) Our judge will be Max Ciampoli, Maryland Heights, MO.

Additional requirements: each rider must raise class sponsorship donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This is mandatory, regardless of the amount of money raised. Every rider must work for St. Jude! (All of the sponsorship money goes to St. Jude).

As you're doing a little fall cleaning in the next week or two and run across book that are too young for your riders, please bring them in and donate them to Smart Start. Barn mom extraordinaire, Kim Stewart, says,"It's only been a week and we've already collected 100 books!" Look for the plastic bin at the barn and bring your book by today. Thanks, everyone.

OK, So It's Not Oprah's Reading List . . .

A Note from Parker

But reading is and always has been my passion. When Ms. Jeanine and I were talking this week, and she said that "Reading books is becoming a lost art," I caught my breath. After lots of thinking, I've come to worry that she might be right.

So here is my challenge to each CLS Family Member reading this. Please email us the titles of your favorite books, old and new, fiction, mystery or how-to. Send them now. Send them in the future. But share!!

We have more than 1,500 people on our CLS email list, and growing! So let's learn from each other -- and from the books that shape us.

I try, every day, to grow from those I meet through these incredible horses. I want to be the best person I can be. I want our children to be empowered to become the finest humans possible. My family teases me that I want to "save the world." Heavens yes! I do! And if we're all thoughtful, and curious and open-minded -- we can do just that.

I love discovering and nurturing friendships with people from all walks of life. And yes, I want to be able to leave this earth a little bit better than I found her.

I know no better way of doing that than sharing what inspires us. And for me, there is no more powerful inspiration that the written word.

The Spring Fun Show raised $6,000 for the orphanage we've adopted in Ghana. This money will provide clean water, food, shelter and educational materials for a special group of CLS friends a world away.

Congratulations to Little Bits Members Rebecca Oster and Gena Wright, both of whom raised over $350 in donations for the orphans. Both riders will receive a FREE ACADEMY SHOW for their hard work! Way to go girls!

Five CLS Riders Receive USEF High School Equestrian Athlete Awards

Congratulations to Emily Stokes, Lindsay Jones, Caroline Anderson, Sydney Cearly and Sarah Martin -- our 2010-2011 USEF High School Equestrian Athletes. These riders "lettered" in equestian sport by logging over 100 hours on horseback and participating in at least five horse shows throughout the 2010-2011 show season. We are so proud of you!
